Thanksgiving is a time of family, togetherness and, according to these stock photos, disturbingly cheerful Caucasians frozen in off-puttingly contrived poses. These bogus scenes of artificial glee have made us do the unthinkable — appreciate our own families. Because if the choice is between these pasty, grinning freaks and the table of bitter, grudge-fueled resentment machines we call relatives, we'll take a drunken argument with a racist uncle any day.

The woman in the second picture on pg. 4 is Hispanic. What does race have to do with it, anyway?

Those were a lot less awkward than I thought they'd be when I saw the headline.
Awkward ones:
maybe #1 (the guy's smile is very fakey)
maybe #3 (not really awkward, just stupid)
maybe #4 (just bad acting, really)
#5 (okay this one is, but mostly because the angle of the guy's face isn't flattering)
#6 (this one is - the family photo with the corny clothes - awkward, yes)
The rest are just, well, normal stock photos of white people. Hard to see what's awkward unless you're really looking for some reason to bag on white people.
By my count: 2 awkward shots out of 10. Fail! -

That obedient Stepford wife with the plastic face and perfect unstained white blouse creeps me out!!!

Pic #6....that loaf of perfectly sliced bread couldn't be any more white !

WTF???,
I firmly believe we should berate all races equally. And while this great country has an outstanding history of disrespecting and humiliating people of nearly all races, creeds and colors, white people seem to have gotten the short end of the intolerance stick over the years. So it's about time we give our pasty white brethren their fair slice of the shit pie. Open wide, assholes! (And in case you're wondering, I'm white as the driven snow.) -

I need to know about the 4th from the last one: why is she just now bringing in the turkey? Everything else looks decimated. Why did they load up the plates before the star attraction arrived? Or is the turkey dessert in this household? Why arent those rolls brown at all? Just wondering. But then, all of these make you wonder...

Ok, who let the teenagers even cook the turkey?

These pictures are all wrong.... where is the booze? If I gotta spend an entire day with my white middle class suburban family, pretending I don't despise them, feigning interest in their narrow minded and whiney conversations, biting my tongue, I'm gonna need ALOT of booze.

Only white people celebrate Thanksgiving. Its true! Look at the photos.

I like how the picture with the gleefully astonished mother and daughter is composed in such a way as to really emphasize the stuffing that has been jammed up the bird's ass.

I like the theme of "attractive woman grasping the bulbous end of the baster in a suggestive fashion while man looks pleased"
This is food porn and I love it. -

Global domination of everyone! -

OK, we get it, stock photos are stupid. Enough already.

When this site takes pot shots at Asians, Arabs, Blacks or Hispanics, then my comment will be invalid. But that will never happen. You can mock the goofy pictures without bringing race into it, but this site saw nothing wrong with adding the racial angle just because the people are white. Again, are we going to see some post mocking blacks at kwanza? Search "caucasian family at kwanza" . Probably won't find too much there, either. So we'll see if there's a post mocking some black meme around kwanza.

@ WTF??? - If everyone on the photos were Asian you would notice and probably say "Why is everyone Asian?" I take note of how ads portray 'average middle-class' as perfectly coifed, blond, blue eyed family living in a designer home with everything just right. Yes, I know it's all for show, but there are rarely any 'ethnic' families (I'm including Middle Eastern looking or Mediterranean types) portraid in these pictures.

No question, we live in a racist culture - I wouldn't know about stock photographers - unless they're thinking "How can I make this photo boring and exclusive and superficial?"
-
Michael | 11/19/2011 flag |
@WTF???: Search on istockphoto.com or Google images for "african american thanksgiving" to see what race has to do with this. Stock photographers think only white, upper-middle class families celebrate Thanksgiving.
-
A F Battershell | 11/18/2011 flag |
Ha HA! Yeah right, as if THESE stock photos represent average "White People on Thanksgiving". Looks rather upper-middle-class . . . where is the stress and tension - and don't forget the domestic violence.
-
lolwhitey | 11/18/2011 flag |
HAHAHAHAHA White people are so dumb! Look at them acting all happy and non-threatening!

What does race have to do with this? Nice gratuitous shots at the only racial group that is allowed to be mocked. How about some awkward black kwanza photos? Won't be posting those this December will you?

I have too many caption ideas! But two pix stand out:
The woman leaning over the turkey with her mouth agape is just ASKING to be photoshopped into some porn!
The following picture: "Breast, anyone?!"
