This isn't just a great way to abbreviate one of the most obnoxiously twee romantic comedies in recent history; it's also an effective technique for letting America's alleged hipster sweetheart know that it's time to put down the ukulele, quit trying to make "adorkable" a word, and stop singing vaguely retro indie tunes from the back of her throat like a warbly Kermit the Frog with bangs.

Someone please tell Zooey that she cannot act and cannot sing. She absolutely butchers all of the covers she does. I had the misfortune of being at a festival in Los Angeles where she butchered "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

Ah, the hate in these comments is highly pleasurable. People like to argue over nothing. Although this time the nothing is actually a person named Zooey D. Mmmm. I dislike her singing. I would like her sister more if she wasn't a vegan. Vegans are putrid. Though she looks totally bangable with the pregnant glow. Not that I would bang her knocked up. Just the extra color and weight makes her look worthy of a tossed-off fantasy at long last. I have gas.

I mean her no harm, but she is everything that is wrong with 'Indie' culture right now...at least when Lana Del Rey isn't around. Okay, LDR is FAR worse, but Zooey is emblematic of this generation of middle class, brunette, fringey, homely-looking girls who think if they act cutesey enough, and knit and sell shit on Etsy, or play a Ukelele - they're holy, authentic souls. Get real. You've never known what its like to be derided for your looks, physicality or interests. Never been forcibly pushed to the periphery. You're no fucking 'Dork'. You just waltzed-in and swept-up the accoutrements that we fought so hard to carve-out for ourselves, while our peers looked on and mocked us. That means YOU: majority of critical commentators.

I love Zooey. This comic totally sucks for a couple of reasons 1) why not title it "1 day of summer" or something else because this isn't Zooey but a character she played. 2) it's totally out of context, in the movie he was actually listening to the Smiths- it wasn't like she just randomly popped out with loving the smiths. 3) I love the smiths and I can't say "millions" of people love the smiths, "millions" of people love Michael Jackson or the Beatles, but I think people that love the smiths range more in the hundreds of thousands.

You're so right about her voice! It always bothered me that she sings in this weirdly restrained, flat way. She has bravado somewhere in her throat, but she kills it. It made her seem too stylized.
Also, I just can't even begin to buy her as awkward and nerdy on her tv show. Not even a tiny bit. -
